All it takes is you, a safe place to sleep outside, and your commitment to helping youth off the streets and into a positive environment.
Once you register, we’ll provide you with tools to help you prepare and participate on your own or with a group. Our most common ways to participate are below:
Sign up to Sleep Out so homeless youth don’t have to. Sleep Out solo or with a friend or two or more (you can always form an official group later!).
With Your Family, Friends, or Neighbors
Teach your children about kids their age who may find themselves in a difficult situation, but who might not be that different from them.
With Your Community Group
(your place of worship, school, or other local group)
There’s strength in numbers. Bring your community together to help homeless kids… and to protect and safeguard all children in need.
With your company or a group of co-workers
Unite as a company or a group of co-workers to show your philanthropic values and make a lasting impact for children in crisis.
Preparing for Your Sleep Out
As an individual or as a group, once you sign on to join the Sleep Out Movement, you’ll be provided with everything you need to make your Sleep Out impactful. As this is primarily a fundraising event to support the life-saving services of Covenant House, we’ll ask you to raise at least $50 per person to be a part of Sleep Out America. We’ll make that easy for you by providing:
- A personal Sleep Out America dashboard to help you raise funds and to invite friends and family to join you.
- A step by step tool kit to guide you through your Sleep Out from the moment you sign up through November 16 – the night America Sleeps Out.
Night of November 16th:
On November 16, the first-ever Sleep Out America, you will join a nationwide movement from the comfort of your home, town, local organization or company. Beginning at approximately 7pm local time, we encourage you to tune in to our online experience to kick off your Sleep Out before heading outside. All you need is a computer or other device with internet access. Special videos, interactive discussions and other activities will connect you to your fellow participants from coast-to-coast, and to Covenant House. You will see first-hand how your actions will help homeless youth who are not only receiving services and shelter, but also love and respect. Additional details will be provided to all participants in advance of November 16th. Note: Online experience materials will also be available post-November 16th for those planning their Sleep Outs on alternate dates.
Not able to Sleep Out on November 16th but still wish to participate? NO PROBLEM! While November 16th is our official Sleep Out day we understand there are some individuals and groups who need to choose an alternate date. Anyone wishing to Sleep Out on an alternate date will still register and have access to all our resources.
