Covenant House was founded in 1972 with the simple, profound mission to help homeless kids escape the streets.
Today we are the largest privately funded charity in the Americas providing loving care and vital services to homeless, abandoned, abused, trafficked, and exploited youth.
Sleep Out America and the Sleep Out Movement is an opportunity for all of us to come together and make a meaningful and lasting impact on the homeless young people who live at Covenant House – and those who might walk through our doors tonight. The funds raised by Sleep Out participants will allow Covenant House to serve approximately 50,000 youth this year.
Young people are changed by every interaction with someone who genuinely cares for them.
We see this come true the first morning after a young person has found a bed in our shelter – they stand a little taller, they face the world with more courage, and their dreams become a little more reachable every time they hear, “You can do it,” or “I believe in you.” And the funds you raise as a Sleep Out participant are put to work immediately, keeping the lights on and the doors open for the next young person brave enough to come inside.

More Than Just a Homeless Shelter
Covenant House is not your ordinary charity organization – we are a leading advocate on behalf of homeless youth. Our work doesn’t stop at direct care. We’re also defending the rights of vulnerable kids at the local, state, national, and international levels of government. Stand with us as we work to enact change through crucial advocacy work. Covenant House is a member of the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Board of Directors of UNICEF and has a prominent role in The Campaign for U.S. Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
